When most people hear the word “Prophecy” they think of something “spooky” or “mystical” when I hear it I am encouraged! The word prophecy comes from an old Hebrew word which means “to bear a message on behalf of another”. In Revelation 19:10b the bible says that the spirit or “nature” of prophecy is the testimony that points to Jesus. It is literally a testimony that points to the lordship of Jesus Christ. So anything that bears a message directly from God that confirms and exalts Jesus’ lordship is prophecy. A believer’s life is one that points to His lordship. I believe that I as well as every other believer on this planet am living, breathing, moving prophecy. I am God’s message to this world that will point them to His lordship. 1 Corinthians 14:3 says that prophecy is for three things, “edification, exhortation, and comfort.” As living, breathing, moving, prophecy from God to the people of this earth, we must move in these three realms. The crux of our lives must be built upon edifying, exhorting, and comforting people with our words and actions. We point others to the Lordship of Jesus Christ through living out and accurately demonstrating these guidelines in love. Isaiah 60 teaches us about Jesus’ anointing that we now bear and carry. What He was sent to do, we are now sent to do. Comfort those who mourn. Proclaim or exhort the people about the favorable year of the Lord. Edify them by preaching the good news. As bearers of the anointing and as living, breathing, moving, prophecies, we carry a weight and an authority. In Jeremiah 1 God put His own mighty, all powerful, creative words into Jeremiah’s little mouth. I believe that the word of God in our mouth is just as powerful and has just as much authority as the word of God in His mouth because it is the same word. When we use our words to point people to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and when our actions back up our words, “prophecy” is not some “mystical”, far fetched thing anymore but rather, it is who we are as believers.
