So the following is some mathematics that I’ve done in the name of Jesus while pondering about Him. I think what you will find is actually quite astonishing.
Total hours in a week: 7(days)*24(hours)=168 hours= 168(hours)*60(seconds) 10,080 minutes.
30 hours= 30(hours)*60(seconds)=1800 minutes we spend a week doing other things such as hanging out with friends watching movies etc. Don’t believe me? Let’s revisit the first statistic I showed you.
168-hour week
School/ work = approximately 50 hours
Sleep = approximately 60 hours
I’ll even let you sleep in an extra 8 hours on Saturday so = 8 hours
I’ll take into account that you like to play video games or watch TV = approximately 20 hours
Lets add that up… 50+60+8+20= 138 hours. Wait a minute 138 hours is not 168 hours they are not equal the last time I checked.
The point I am getting at here is that there is about 30 hours a week where we spend doing other things, when in fact we NEED TO BE SPENDING THAT TIME WITH GOD!!!!!!! Do you realize that that is almost a full time job you could be devoting to God, reading the word, praying, fasting, and just really getting intimate with our Creator? And mind you that is on top of the other stuff I allowed for during the week.
I did a bit more calculating and check these numbers out:
After realizing we have about 30 hours a week, which is, equivalent to 1800 minutes check this out.
[1800(minutes)]/ (7 days in a week)= 257.14 minutes per day. While that looks like a lot there is
24(hours)* (60 seconds)= 1,440 minutes in a day total.
[(257.14)/(1440)]*100%= approximately 17.8456% of the day could be spent with the Lord. And let me further show you how minute that minute really is.
257(minutes)= approximately 4.2857 hours
[4.2857(hours)/ 24 (hours)]*100%= goes back to the 17.8456% statistic.
However, [4.2857(hours)/30(hours)]*100%= 14.28% of the 30 hours a week praying fulfilled each day which in reality is:
[(4.2857(hours))/ (168 hours)]*100%= 2.55% of a week praying each day.
And because of that I believe God deserves that much MINIMUM of my time per week. And I would hope that you agree with that as well.
The reason I saw all of this is because a lot of the time we become weighted down with the cares of this life. We THINK we don’t have time to read our bibles, pray, and get intimate in the secret place when in reality you just saw how much time you have a week that gets wasted on other things. In no way I’m I writing this to convict any of you I am writing this because I too am guilty of all of this. And Luke 21:34-36 it what has really fired me up about all of this. Jesus says “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place and to stand before the Son of Man” (ESV).
We have got to compare ourselves to Christ. The three issues 1) carousing 2) drunkenness 3) cares of this life cause us to come out of touch with reality. We are going to face the judgment seat of Christ. And what Jesus is saying here is not condemning the Laodecian church for being wretched, nimble, poor, blind, and naked. He is condemning them for their ignorance. That is all he ever condemns for. Because if he did it for the first reasons, he would be condemning all of us and we wouldn’t have grace, or salvation we would have predestination to hell. And that is not what Jesus teaches, nor is it biblical. So if you take nothing else away from this post take this, the western church is asleep! Beloved, we have got to wake up and follow the path of righteousness and compare our lives to Jesus. I know full well that if Jesus were physically present today (notice I didn’t say alive because he already is alive and coming again!) he would spend more than 30 hours a week praying. Is this something that is viable?… (check back for part 2)
Remember that I love you all! My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.
